چکیده

Abstract We reveal a divergent issue associated with the mean-field theory for Bose gases in optical lattices constructed by widely used straightforward decoupling of hopping term, where corresponding Hamiltonian generally assumes no lower energy bound once spatial dependence superfluid order parameter is taken into account. Via systematic functional integral approach, we solve this establishing general finite temperature that can treat any possible without causing issue. Interestingly, find an intrinsic non-hermitian structure originates from indefiniteness matrix system. Within theory, develop efficient approach investigating physics system at temperature, properties be calculated via investigation on saddle points effective potential function parameter. illustrate our transition lattices. Since underlying quite general, straightforwardly applied to investigate related systems phases possessing complex structures.

Mean-field dynamics of a non-Hermitian Bose-Hubbard dimer.

We investigate an N-particle Bose-Hubbard dimer with an additional effective decay term in one of the sites. A mean-field approximation for this non-Hermitian many-particle system is derived, based on a coherent state approximation. The resulting nonlinear, non-Hermitian two-level dynamics, in particular, the fixed point structures showing characteristic modifications of the self-trapping trans...

Novel quantum phases of dipolar bose gases in optical lattices.

We investigate the quantum phases of polarized dipolar bosons loaded into a two-dimensional square and three-dimensional cubic optical lattices. We show that the long-range and anisotropic nature of the dipole-dipole interaction induces a rich variety of quantum phases, including the supersolid and striped supersolid phases in two-dimensional lattices, and the layered supersolid phase in three-...

Beyond mean field physics with Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices

By loading Bose-Einstein condensates into a three dimensional optical lattice potential we are able to demonstrate several new intriguing regimes in the physics of ultracold atoms. For example by changing the lattice potential depth we have been able to induce a quantum phase transition from a superfluid to a Mott insulating ground state of the system. Furthermore, by rapidly isolating the diff...

Damping in dilute Bose gases: a mean-field approach

Damping in a dilute Bose gas is investigated using a mean-field approximation which describes the coupled oscillations of condensate and non-condensate atoms in the collisionless regime. Explicit results for both Landau and Beliaev damping rates are given for non-uniform gases. In the case of uniform systems we obtain results for the damping of phonons both at zero and finite temperature. The i...
